Women travellers, rejoice! You will be able to travel in DTC (Delhi Transport Corporation) buses for free from today onwards.
According to the plan, conductors will be issuing tickets to women passengers which will have a value of R10 each. These pink tickets will allow the women to use the public transport for free. Based on the number of tickets issued, the government will then be reimbursing the value to the passengers.

What’s more?
The good part, the facility of free rides is not only available within the city but NCR as well. Cluster buses and buses plying between Noida, Gurgaon and the airport will also allow women to travel for free under this scheme.
As reported, on August 29, the Delhi-cabinet had given an approval to scheme for providing free bus-rides for women in both DTC and cluster buses. There was a catch though. Women who are working with local bodies, the government would have to forego their transport allowance in order to avail these services.

According to the data shared, there are around 3,700 DTC buses and 1,800 buses under the cluster scheme of the Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS).
When the odd-even scheme was executed in the city, the city’s public transport wasn’t quite prepared to face the brunt of it. So, it makes us wonder if it is ready to take on this challenge? Let’s wait and watch.
