Travel today is about more than just visiting places; it’s about tasting them too. The new ‘Shelf Discovery’ travel trend highlights how travellers are exploring local cultures through supermarket shelves and snacks. And now, Skyscanner is bringing that experience to India with its first-ever Snack Transit Pop-Up. Scroll down for more details.
What Is Shelf-Discovery Travel Trend?
The shelf discovery travel trend is all about exploring a country through its supermarket shelves instead of fancy restaurants. Travellers are realising that local stores and snack aisles tell real stories about the place and what people eat, how they snack, and what flavours they love. From Japan’s quirky vending machines to Iceland’s freshly baked bread–grocery shopping abroad has become a new kind of cultural adventure that’s both fun and affordable.
According to a Skyscanner report, 60% of Indian travellers say that wandering through local supermarkets is their favourite way to learn about new cultures. Through Snack Transit pop-Up, Skyscanner is bringing that global curiosity right to Indian cities, giving people a flavourful glimpse of the world without needing a passport.
