According to a report by NDTV, Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport witnessed zero visibility on Monday morning. At least 128 flights were cancelled, while eight were diverted due to dense fog. An official shared with NDTV that 64 departures and 64 arrivals were cancelled since early morning.
Delhi airport operator DIAL also took to X to inform passengers that some departures and arrivals could be impacted due to low runway visibility. DIAL assured travellers that on-ground staff would assist passengers and provide necessary support. IndiGo also warned of delays and slow flight movements in Delhi due to weather conditions on their official X account. They wrote, “The fluctuating visibility has led to changes in flight schedules, and operations may be slower than usual as conditions evolve. Our teams on-ground are prioritising safety and compliance with visibility requirements.”

CAT III Operations In Place
According to a report by Hindustan Times, flight operations at Delhi airport are being conducted under CAT III procedures. This system allows aircraft to land safely in extremely low visibility. Not just air travel, rail services have also been reported to be affected in several parts of north India due to poor visibility.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday predicted dense fog across North India in the coming days. Fog is likely to persist during the night and early morning hours across Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and western Uttar Pradesh till December 31. This means the cold spell is set to continue. Travellers are advised to take extra care, dress warmly, and eat nourishing food during this biting cold.
With flights getting delayed and cancelled in Delhi, travellers are advised to check their flight status before heading to the airport.
