Delhi and Gurugram police have now issued advisories related to the upcoming Republic Day celebrations in the capital. You will need to avoid certain routes and take alternative ones if you don’t want to get yourself stuck in traffic. Plus, the authorities have also issued some advisories related to heavy vehicle movement as well! Here’s everything you need to know.

Traffic Restrictions In Delhi For Beating Retreat Rehearsals


Traffic restrictions will be in place on January 22 because of the rehearsals for the Beating Retreat ceremony at Vijay Chowk in Delhi. According to the advisory by Delhi Police, which was posted on X, curbs will be in place from 4 pm to 6:30 pm. The route will remain closed for general traffic. Plus, traffic will not be allowed beyond the roundabouts at Dara Shikoh Road, Krishna Menon Marg, and Sunehri Masjid in the direction of Vijay Chowk.

Delhi Traffic Police advised commuters to take alternative routes such as Ring Road, Ridge Road, Aurobindo Marg, Minto Road, Rani Jhansi Road, and Madarsa T-point. In addition to that, commuters should also expect moderate to heavy traffic in and around Vijay Chowk and adjoining corridors during the rehearsal hours. So, if you are planning to travel anywhere today, make sure to keep this advisory in mind. Delhi Traffic police also suggested people use public transportation to minimise congestion on the roads.

Gurugram Advisory For Heavy Vehicle Movement

According to a report by LiveMint, Gurugram police have also issued an important travel advisory. Goods vehicle transports, medium and heavy goods vehicles, will not be allowed to enter Delhi or Gurugram. These curbs will remain in place from January 22, 5 pm to January 23, 1:30 pm. The same rule will apply once again on January 25 from 5 pm to January 26 till 1:30 pm. This rule is announced to maintain smooth traffic movement and reduce inconvenience to commuters. 

Reportedly, for the first time, Delhi Police will use AI-powered smart glasses as part of security arrangements for Republic Day. These glasses will connect to real-time police databases of criminals and offenders using facial recognition and thermal imaging. It will allow the officers to quickly identify individuals in crowded locations.
