India is known for its extensive train network but did you know about this train that operates only once a year? We’re talking about Jagriti Yatra! Started with an aim of ‘Building India Through Enterprise’ in 2008, this unique, 15-day train journey is an opportunity for the youth in Tier 2 and Tier 3 districts of India to learn more about entrepreneurship and build networks during the journey. Read on to know more about it.
What Is Jagriti Yatra & Who Can Apply For It?
Jagriti Yatra is a 15-day long, national train journey that travels 8,000 kilometres across the length and breadth of India. Organised by Jagriti Sewa Sansthanm, this non-profit initiative was started in 2008 and has since created a national enterprise ecosystem to support entrepreneurs in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities of the country.
With this 15-day ‘yatra’, the organisation aims to inspire India’s youth and help them pave the way for enterprise-led development in India. The journey brings together young minds from across the country, and even internationally, to talk and learn more about the growing entrepreneurial landscape of India.
Jagriti Yatra sees the participation of 500 people. These include young minds aged between 21 and 27 years, and mentors of age more than 28 who facilitate the journey. There are also role models in the train who talk and inspire the youth about social and business entrepreneurship.
Jagriti Yatra is helpful for the youth as they are all at a critical phase of their career and life. During this 15-day journey, the participants travel across 12 destinations and learn about how they can help grow smaller towns and villages through enterprise.
How The “Yatris” For This Train Are Selected
As per Jagriti Yatra’s website, the organisation has a rigorous process to select the brightest talent from a large pool of applicants. They identify youth over 21 years of age, who show the potential to lead change. To select their candidates, they don’t look into marksheets but rather the capabilities of the applicants. They consider the candidates’ understanding of India’s pressing problems. And also how they approach solving these issues. Also, Jagriti Yatra includes up to 40 exceptional international candidates whose global exposure adds value to the Yatra.
While the registration for this year’s Jagriti Yatra is now closed, you can follow them on Instagram to keep yourself updated about the next year’s journey.
