Travellers heading to Mussoorie can soon expect a faster and more direct route from Delhi. The Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh governments have approved a ₹6100-crore elevated corridor that aims to revolutionise regional connectivity. The new 180-kilometre stretch will drastically reduce travel time while providing a smoother, congestion-free experience. However, the project will lead to the demolition of over 2,600 homes, sparking concerns over displacement and rehabilitation.

The Mussoorie-Delhi elevated road project will cover approximately 140 kilometres in Uttar Pradesh and 40 kilometres in Uttarakhand. This express corridor is expected to reduce the travel time from nearly 6–7 hours to just 2.5 hours. According to The New Indian Express, the elevated structure will bypass traffic-prone areas and offer a seamless route for tourists and daily commuters.

Officials plan to begin work after completing land surveys, securing clearances, and finalising construction tenders. The route’s design aims to balance efficiency with minimal environmental disruption, though the scale of the project has made headlines.
Over 2,600 Houses To Be Demolished
As part of the development, the project will lead to the demolition of 2,614 houses — 2,298 in Uttar Pradesh and 316 in Uttarakhand. Affected regions include Saharanpur, Dehradun, and Doiwala. According to officials, families impacted by the Mussoorie-Delhi elevated road project will be compensated under the Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act.

Authorities have already begun surveys to identify homes that fall within the proposed path. While financial aid and relocation benefits will be offered, several communities have expressed concern over the social impact of mass displacement.
Economic And Tourism Boost Expected
Despite the housing loss, the project is poised to boost tourism in Mussoorie, one of North India’s most visited hill stations. Easier access from Delhi is expected to drive tourist footfall and benefit local businesses. Hotels, restaurants, and transport services in Mussoorie could see a sharp rise in revenue.
