The first edition of the DM Food Elite is Dubai Municipality’s newest initiative and is now accepting nominations. It recognises and rewards restaurants in the Emirate for exceeding high criteria for food safety, nutrition, sustainability, social responsibility, and innovation. The main objective is to motivate these food businesses to keep growing and surpassing the Emirate’s level of living.

The Director General of Dubai Municipality introduced the DM Food Elite Programme. This programme will honour restaurants in Dubai who have consistently demonstrated leadership in food safety excellence combined with a commitment to sustainability, nutrition, and social responsibility. A sustainable food system is the outcome of the Municipality of Dubai’s unwavering dedication to developing a sustainable food system, as highlighted by Sultan Al Taher, Director of the Food Safety Department.
Additionally, he affirmed that the food system complies with the strictest international safety and sustainability standards. It is strengthening Dubai’s standing as a sustainable city that offers high living standards. It also includes extraordinary health and food safety criteria. In order to promote the goals of the Dubai Food Security Strategy, the program’s main goal is to reward and recognise food-related companies and entities that have made noteworthy contributions to the development of this system and to strengthen Dubai’s position as a hub for international trade.
Three different categories of food enterprises will be recognised by the programme. Further, three restaurants each will be chosen from the following categories:
- fast food chains
- cafeterias
- independent dine-in restaurants
- restaurants attached to hotels.
Proactive Steps Taken To Ensure Food Safety
The five specific criteria that will be used to evaluate and choose the food establishments are:
- the government’s commitment to nutrition
- health
- sustainability initiatives
- digital adoption
- innovation in business
Indicators of the sustainability standard include social impact, environmental responsibility, and governance procedures. Meanwhile, the criterion for food safety excellence culture includes indicators such as management commitment to food safety and proactive measures taken to assure food safety across the supply chain.

Technology and innovation criteria will impact the food enterprises’ attempts to maintain advanced traceability and transparency in the food supply, as well as data-driven insights and decision-making.
