We love ordering from restaurants and savouring dishes in the comfort of our homes. A perfect stressbuster, right? However, our moments of joy often turn out to be a major misery for sanitation workers. After we are done eating food, we usually throw out the delivery boxes. There are some important steps to follow before tossing the dabba in the dustbins. Otherwise, the containers become awfully smelly and pose issues during the recycling process.

Stop Throwing Away Food Delivery Boxes Randomly

Taking to the Instagram page Jordindian (@thejordindian), Naser Al Azzeh and Vineeth Beep Kumar shared an insightful video educating us about the right way of disposing of food delivery dabbas.

We often see our mothers washing plastic containers thoroughly to reuse them to store food. However, most people usually prefer throwing out these disposable plastic takeout boxes. This Instagram reel shares how these containers start smelling terrible only after two days of throwing them away without washing them. Participants in this video were quite shocked to realise what happens after disposing of dabbas anywhere without any care.

People reacted to the stinking food delivery boxes and compared the smell with dirty armpits, vomit, diarrhoea, death, and highway toilets. Mary, a professional working relentlessly to keep Bengaluru clean, shared many people throw away takeaway boxes with leftover food inside, assuming them to be dry waste. She explained how all these create issues for her and her team of pourakarmikas or cleaners. She requested to wash the dabbas and then dispose of them in dry waste bins.

Throwing containers in an improper dustbin in an incorrect way tampers the recycling process. These disposable plastic boxes do not get recycled and end up accumulating in landfills. Unfortunately, these problems pose health risks for waste pickers.
