With loud cheers and big smiles, 125 passengers on the luxury cruise ‘Odyssey’ were finally able to resume their world voyage on Monday, after being docked in Belfast since May! The luxurious round-the-world cruise was hit by unexpected technical issues and repair work that left passengers stranded in Belfast for months. Read on to know more about this.
Luxury Cruise Odyssey Finally Leaves Belfast
Villa Vie Residences’ Odyssey is a three-and-a-half-year long, round-the-world cruise. It is believed to be the world’s first continual cruise and was supposed to continue its journey from Northern Ireland’s Belfast on May 30. However, due to technical difficulties in the ship’s engine, the cruise ship was forced to be docked at Belfast’s Harland & Wolff drydock for the last four months!
On Monday, after all the outfitting, certification processes, and engine repairs, the cruise departed from Northern Ireland’s capital at 10:40 PM GMT (4:20 AM IST). According to a Hindustan Times report, there was yet another technical glitch before Monday’s departure and passengers had to wait for the cruise authorities to fix it before the ship finally left the port.
Excited Passengers All Set For World’s First Continual Cruise
Odyssey is a 1,301-day-long cruise that will cover all seven continents with stoppages at 425 ports. During this four-month delay, Odyssey passengers either bought or rented long-term cabins on the residential cruise ship. They could spend all day on the ship but weren’t allowed to sleep in it at night. The passengers spent their nights in hotels or rented apartments.
However, the passengers did make the most of this unexpectedly long delay. While many of them explored Northern Ireland, others decided to travel around Europe. Now that the cruise is finally sailing again, the cheerful passengers showed their excitement to continue the adventure in other continents.
We must admire the patience and spirit of all the passengers on Villa Vie Residences’ Odyssey! It takes a lot to wait in a foreign land for months for a cruise to set sail. We hope that the experience and all the adventure that awaits them is worth the wait!
