Downing Street’s most popular resident’s position may be under threat. No, we do not mean the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. We mean Larry The Cat, a four-legged ball of fur and sass who is burdened with the position of Chief Mouser. Accursed to wear this crown of thorns, the of-furr-cial has performed his duty with grace and dignity. Now, the new Prime Minister, Kier Starmer, has announced that he will soon welcome a new Siberian kitten at Number 10, Downing Street.

According to an article which was recently published by TimeOut London, the new kitten will be introduced to other in-house felines gradually. The announcement about the new kitten was made by the new Prime Minister on BBC 5 Live.

The only major issue, as per Starmer, will be installing a cat flap. The door of the only entrance to the house is bombproof and hence, the challenge. The officials are taking measures to combat other issues like familiarising the kitten with the other cats.

Number 10, Downing Street currently houses two cats, one the Chief Mouser, Larry, and JoJo, a rescue cat by the family. The new Siberian kitten will undoubtedly be a charming addition to the growing feline family.

As any cat owner can attest, younger kittens are often more energetic than older ones. Given that Larry the Cat is 17 years old, it is possible that the youthful energy of the kitten might be bothersome for this grumpy elderly.

In order to ensure that he doesn’t get too bothered, a special area is reserved for him. It will ensure that he still has his own space for when he needs some me-time after a tough day as the Chief Mouser of the house.

For now, as per his X (formerly known as Twitter) post, he seems to have his guard up.
