In an announcement, UAE’s crown prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed revealed that Dubai-aites can soon travel in driverless vehicles. How cool is that! Dubai will be the first city outside the US to operate driverless vehicles, the Emirate’s Crown Prince said. The first few self-driving vehicles will be out and running by 2023. The number is expected to go up to 4,000 by 2030.
The Driverless Vehicles Are Fully- Electric & Environment Friendly
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has signed an agreement with the self-driving car subsidiary of General Motors Co. to operate driverless taxis and ride-hailing services in the emirate. The vehicles are fully electric, environmentally-friendly and will cater to clients from various segments including senior citizens and people of determination.

Dubai To Convert 25% Of Total Transportation Into Self-Driving Tips
“Our goal is to convert 25 per cent of the total transportation in Dubai into self-driving trips through various means of transportation by 2030. Dubai’s vision for the future of self-driving aims to reduce transportation costs by AED 900 million annually, saving AED 1.5 billion by reducing environmental pollution by 12% annually”, said Sheikh Hamdan.
In March 2019, DG World in collaboration with Dubai Silicon Oasis developed the first automated taxi. The smart vehicle passed all the necessary safety requirements, can travel at a speed of 35 km per hour and can accommodate four people. Dubai RTA had launched the vehicle at Gitex 2018.

Abu Dhabi To Soon Have Driverless Cars To Transport Passengers Around The Capital
Recently, it was also revealed that Abu Dhabi will soon have driverless vehicles transporting passengers for free. The Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) has signed a cooperation agreement with Bayanat, a G42 company, for the trial operations of the autonomous vehicles. The self-driving vehicles will be launched in two phases. The first phase will have three vehicles operating in and around the Yas Island. The second phase includes more than 10 vehicles in multiple locations across Abu Dhabi.
The service will be free of cost in both phases, and will operate from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm. All vehicles will also have a safety officer to intervene in the event of any sudden circumstances.
