This day, September 9, marks a milestone in Dubai’s history. The Dubai Metro turns 15, and it’s not just a birthday but a celebration of transformation. Launched on the same day back in 2009, Dubai Metro redefined public transport in the region, being the first of its kind on the Arabian Peninsula.

To mark this special occasion, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is going all out. They’ve lined up exciting freebies, exclusive collectables, and fun-filled celebrations that will make you want to hop on the metro.

For the collectors, Emirates Post is releasing limited-edition stamps just for this momentous anniversary. The RTA is also launching a special edition nol card, complete with a unique design crafted by LEGO. If you’re a fan of memorabilia, Al Jaber Gallery has you covered with a selection of metro-themed souvenirs.

And for a unique twist, LEGOLAND Dubai is hosting a special party on Saturday, September 21. The ‘Metro Babies’ event is for children born between September 9, 2009, and September 9, 2023. Parents can register their little ones on the RTA’s website to join in the fun.

But the celebrations don’t stop there. IGLOO Ice Creams is releasing a limited-edition ice cream shaped like the Dubai Metro. It’s a sweet tribute to this iconic transport system. And if you’re lucky, your ice cream might come with a special code that gives you the chance to win one of 5,000 Nol Terhaal discount cards.

Dubai Metro Has Carried Over 2.4 Billion Passengers Since Its Launch

Since its inception, Dubai Metro has carried over 2.4 billion passengers across 4.3 million trips. These staggering numbers were shared by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, in a recent post on X (formerly known as Twitter). Sheikh Mohammed also shared a goal for the metro to achieve a perfect 100 per cent punctuality rate. Currently, it’s an impressive 99.7 percent.

Dubai Metro has become one of the best and most efficient ways to explore the city. This 15th-anniversary celebration is the perfect opportunity to appreciate its remarkable journey while enjoying the fun perks it brings.
