The Blue Line of the Dubai Metro is certainly one of the most awaited metro lines. And recently, Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority launched the project for this line as well. With the metro line set for expansion in Dubai, it aims to improve urban mobility while also reducing road congestion and supporting sustainable development. So, here’s everything you need to know about this upcoming line that is going to ease the congestion in the emirate.
Dubai Metro To Open Blue Line By 2029?
It is expected that the blue line of the Dubai Metro will open on September 9, 2029. As mentioned in a report by the Gulf News, it will mark the 20th anniversary of the Red Line, which was opened back on September 9, 2009. The Blue Line will cover 30 km and it will link key residential and commercial areas. As a result, about one million people will be served through the opening of this line.
The Project Was Awarded To AED20.5 Billion
Costing AED20.5 billion, the project was awarded to top Turkish and Chinese firms after an international tender process was undertaken. The Dubai Metro continues to remain the backbone of the city, transporting about 2.5 billion riders ever since its launch in 2009. And now with the launch of the, it is bound to make accessibility for different areas in Dubai a lot easier.
What About Routes & Stations?
Supporting the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan with the introduction of the Blue Line, it will offer a more sustainable mobility solution. Talking about the routes, the Blue Line will have two major routes. Yes, and these have been designed to integrate with the Red and Green Lines. Route One will connect to the Green Line via Al Khor and will go to Academic City through 10 stations. It will pass through the following stations:
- Dubai Festival City
- Dubai Creek Harbour
- Ras Al Khor
- International City 1
- International City (2) & (3)
- Dubai Silicon Oasis
- Dubai Academic City
- Al Ruwaiyah 3 Depot
On the other hand, Route 2 will connect to the Red Line in Al Rashidiya and will pass through Mirdif as well. As it happens at International City (1), it will connect to Route One, and the total length of this line is 9 km. It will feature four stations on the route, including Al Warqaa!

A Showpiece Station At Dubai Creek
As it happens, there are several signature elements of the Blue Line that just cannot be missed. It will feature a 1.3 km bridge over Dubai Creek, which is a first-of-its-kind for a metro. At Dubai Harbour, there will be a showpiece station that has been designed by the world architecture firm SOM. All stations and infrastructure will comply with platinum grade, Green building standards and will connect high-density residential and commercial zones.
Finally, it’s not wrong to say that once the Blue Line opens, it is projected that a capacity of 46,000 passengers will be transported in both directions per hour.
