Indian Family Loses AED 50,000 Worth Of Gold In Garbage, Dubai Police Trace It In 3-Days!

Dubai always stand on the top when it comes to the safest cities. But now and then, a story comes along that proves those claims are not just talk. After multiple awards and real-life instances, one new development makes us believe in the statement. An Indian family recently lost gold worth around AED 50,000, nearly Rs 13 lakh, after it was accidentally thrown into the trash. Here’s how the story unfolded and how Dubai Police recovered it in just 3 days.

Dubai Police Recover Rs 13 Lakh Gold From Garbage In 3 Days, Indian Family Relieved

According to a report by News18, Dubai Police traced and returned the missing gold within three days.

Kamini Kannan had lived in the UAE for 23 years before returning to India in 2021. During a recent trip back to Dubai for a wedding, she checked her old gold pouch, which happened to be torn. So she shifted her valuables into a temporary pouch and left them on the dining table.

Inside were four 22-carat gold coins weighing 8 grams each and one 50-gram 24-carat gold bar. The next day, while cleaning the house, her son Abhimanyu mistook the pouch for garbage and threw it away. By morning, the family realised the gold was gone. AED 50,000 or let’s say years of savings gone in mins.  They informed their building security, but deep down thought the gold wouldn’t be recovered.

A Phone Call That Changed Everything

Three days later, Abhimanyu received a phone call enquiring if he had lost something valuable. At first, he couldn’t believe it, but later realised the call was from Dubai Police. At the building reception, officers explained what had happened. A waste-collection worker had discovered the pouch while handling trash, where he figured there was gold inside.

He could have kept it, and no one would have known, but that’s not how we do it in Dubai.

He simply took the pouch to the Gold Souk, where a formal system exists to report and hand over found gold items.

How Police Tracked The Owner

Police questioned the worker, who clearly stated he had found the pouch in the garbage. Using waste-collection records, officers traced the trash back to the specific building. From there, building security helped identify the family. Abhimanyu was asked to visit Naif Police Station, where officers showed him the recovered gold. To claim it, he only needed photographs, purchase bills and proof of ownership.

Honesty Backed By A Strong System

The family expressed deep gratitude to the Dubai Police. The waste worker’s integrity played a major role, which made the system work.

For Kamini, who spent over two decades in the UAE, the incident reinforced what she had witnessed for years. Strong laws, accountability and a culture that values honesty. This makes our faith grow stronger in the city’s safety standards.
