Dubai metro commuters must have recently noticed a shop closure that feels familiar. Zoom stores, where people using the Dubai metro usually take a pitstop for coffee between the ticket gate and the platform, are no longer open. The shutters are down, and the lights are gone. What’s happening?
Why Zoom Stores Are Quietly Vanishing From Dubai Metro Stations?
Over the past few months, Zoom convenience stores inside Dubai Metro stations have started disappearing. Regular commuters confirm closures at busy interchanges like BurJuman and Union metro stations. Several other stations across the network have also been under the radar for related closures. In many cases, the stores shut quietly, without notices or explanations, as mentioned in a report by Gulf News.
Business listings back this up. Locations such as Rove Trade Centre near Al Jafiliya now show as permanently closed, while branches in Al Ras and older stations appear inactive or temporarily shut.
No Official Word, Just Closed Shutters
Zoom is owned by ENOC. But as mentioned in a report by Gulf News, the company has declined to comment. There has been no public announcement explaining whether this is a temporary move or part of a bigger strategy.
What stands out is where the closures are happening. Zoom stores at petrol stations across Dubai continue to operate as usual. The change appears limited to metro station outlets, not the entire brand.
Why Metro Stores May Return To Normal
Metro retail relies heavily on impulse buys like a quick drink, snack or a last-minute top-up. When footfall dips or habits change, those quick purchases disappear too.
Unlike petrol stations, where customers plan their stops, metro shoppers rush. Several Reddit users say the closures started in late 2024 and early 2025, especially in Deira, Oud Metha, and older stations that struggled even before.
Lower sales, higher operating costs, and changing commuter behaviour resulted in this closure decision.

More Than Just A Shop For Daily Riders
For regular metro users, Zoom was not just about food. It handled Nol card payments, bill services for DEWA and gas, plus Salik top-ups. All without stepping outside the station.
Losing that convenience changes routines.
Dubai’s commuting habits are changing, retail economics and everyday life keeps adjusting accordingly.
