The recent video by one of the residents of Dubai, Priya Jethani, demonstrates how panic may spread rapidly. When she received an alert, she raced to her car, which was an unsafe move. But when in panic, that’s what happens. So here’s what you should do instead. Priya informs in her video, ‘If you are out in the open?’ Don’t stay there. Please proceed to the nearest indoor area as soon as possible. Imagine restaurants, cafes, malls or even a washroom in the street. Do not run long distances. Do not attempt to leave the area.
According to the Gulf News, it is much safer to remain indoors than go outside or sit in a parked vehicle.
If You Are Driving: Park, Stop, And Step Indoors
It is easy to become confused when driving alert. It is the urge to continue moving. Don’t.
Pull over safely. Park your car. Then go out and get as close to an indoor place as possible.
Your car is not a safe zone. A nearby building is. A rapid decision corresponds to a more secure result.
In Case You Are Inside: Get Out Of The Risk Areas
Already inside? Remain there, but check your place for any hazards.
- Avoid windows, balconies and glasses. Go to an internal area, such as a corridor or a room that is not exposed to the outside.
- Never use elevators unless there is security advice. Hear building management announcements or instructions.
- Waiting until you get the word that it is safe to proceed.
- Await the all-clear message from the authorities.
- Await the official all-clear signal from the Ministry of Interior, UAE. It will be via the same notification mechanism.
- No assumptions or early exits are safe.
