This Bijoya Dashami is something Calcuttans will never forget! The skies of Calcutta are all set to mesmerise people with something super special and different. Over 600 drones will be fully charged and ready to dazzle the night skies over the Park Circus Maidan, a 64-hectare plot in the centre of the city. And if you’re wondering why the duration of the show is so brief, it’s because that’s roughly how long the drone batteries will last.

A crowd of about 50,000 people is anticipated to attend the never-before-seen aerial light and sound show of “Ravan Dahan” to simultaneously bid farewell to Maa Durga on Bijoya Dashami and celebrate Dussehra, which commemorates Lord Rama’s victory over King Ravana. The 15-minute performance is set to begin at 7pm.
In practice, the Red-Green-Blue-illuminated drones would be arranged in pre-determined formations to create both 2-D and 3-D visuals and messages, each representing a scene from the epic, legendary battle.
It was discovered that one computer would control all 600 drones autonomously. About 15 expert drone technicians from Delhi and other regions of the nation are already rehearsing the show and completing the necessary code for the geo-fencing in the air for the special light show.
The drones would be visible from a distance of seven to eight kilometres if they were hovering at an altitude of roughly 200 metres above ground. (As per The Telegraph Online)

The Epic Ram Vs Ravana Battle
In terms of the number of machines involved, this would be the biggest drone lighting show in eastern India.
In order to create one-of-a-kind light patterns to represent the epic Ram vs. Ravana battle over the skies of Calcutta, Uddipani, the organisers of the Park Circus Sarbojanin puja, is working with BotLab Dynamics, an IIT Delhi-based tech start-up company specialising in live and creative drone shows, in addition to providing technology support to the Indian defence sector in its state-of-the-art drone swarming missions.
Arjun Dhawan, the event’s organiser, argued that if China can accomplish it, then why not Bengal. According to Dhawan, drone illuminations have rarely been employed for celebrations and large-scale occasions like Dussehra. He acknowledged that the idea for such a show came to him after seeing the displays in China.
Dhawan Is Optimistic
Dhawan is optimistic about the support he has received from the Army’s Eastern Command headquarters in Calcutta. It served as a liaison between Uddipani and BotLab for the event. The enthusiasm from city mayor Firhad Hakim, was also appreciated. According to Dhawan, he has already extended his abutment. He already has the necessary clearances from the Ministry of Home Affairs for hosting.
Durga Puja, is the ideal opportunity for India to demonstrate to the world our technological prowess as per Dhawan. This is because it is one of the largest festival in India. (As per The Telegraph Online)
