With the utmost comfort and affordability, the Vande Bharat Express has become one of India’s most loved trains. The train, which was launched in February 2019, nearly four years ago, is very popular among the people in the country. But did you know that because of this train, airfares are seeing a dip of about 20–30%, and also the air traffic has seen a fall of 10–20%? How? Why? Keep reading to learn more!
Airfares And Air Traffic See a Dip, Vande Bharat Is The Reason
Vande Bharat trains in India include 20 eight-car services and 14 sixteen-car services. This brings the count of this train in India to 34. Recently, many new Vande Bharat Expresses have been flagged off at various places in the country. This was launched to improve connectivity between various cities and make travel hassle-free for people.
Indian Railways recently monitored the demand for these trains on the basis of the gender and age of the passengers. As they monitored this, they found something very important and also surprising.
The first finding was that the launch of these trains has caused airfares to drop by 20–30%. It has also been seen that air traffic has also fallen to 10–20%. (As per India.com)
Data Collected By Central Railways
The data collected by Indian Railways showed that the highest number of passengers in Mumbai for the Vande Bharat Express were in the age group between 31 and 45 years of age. This number was followed by the age group between 15 and 30 years of age.
In a report by the Hindustan Times, Shivraj Manaspure, PRO of Central Railway (CR), shared the occupancy percentage. He said that during this period, out of the total passenger occupancy, 4.5% was occupied by transgender people and 5% was by children aged between 1 and 14 years of age.
The statistics by Central Railways also include data based on the gender of the passenger. This data is of the people who travelled between September 15 and October 13 from Mumbai to Goa, Mumbai to Solapur, and Mumbai to Shirdi.
According to the data based on the gender of the passengers, during this period, there were 26 transgender passengers, 57,838 female passengers, and 85,600 male passengers. (As per India.com)
Popularising The Train More
Indian Railways aims to popularise Vande Bharat Express more and more so that occupancy rates increase. According to the latest data for September, the occupancy rates for these trains from Mumbai to Solapur, Mumbai to Shirdi, and Mumbai to Madgaon are somewhere between 77 and 101%.
According to the data released by Northeast Frontier Railway, the train that runs between New Jalpaiguri and Guwahati draws middle-aged people and youths the most.
They prefer to travel via this Vande Bharat Express and reach their destination in five and a half hours rather than going there. About two express trains run every day from the New Jalpaiguri Station.
