The entire West Bengal is getting decked up to welcome Maa Durga. We are only 83 days away from celebrating Bengalis’ biggest festival, Durga Puja, and preparations for the grand days have started already. Each corner of the state gets illuminated magnificently for Maa and her children. This time, Ranaghat, a small city in this state, is creating the tallest Durga idol in the world. I cannot wait to witness the artistic brilliance IRL.
Artisans Are Working On The World’s Tallest Durga Idol
If you are not from Bengal, you might think that Kolkata is the address to the most glorious and grandest Durga puja pandals. Well, several cities and towns here are famous for their impeccable representations during the festival. One of this year’s iconic idols is being created by a team of talented artists at Nadia district’s Ranaghat Kamalpur Avijan Sangha and it is everything more than we can imagine.
Get ready to witness the sheer artistry of excellent artisans showcasing their talent to structure and chisel the idols. The plan is to create a 125 feet tall Maa Durga idol this year and embark on the journey to clinch the title of the world’s tallest Durga idol. According to a report by India Today, the team of artists will also make 40 feet idols of Maa Lakshmi, Maa Saraswati, Lord Ganesha, and Lord Kartik.
The formation process is significantly different from other Durga idols. Several steps are a part of the creation journey to ensure the idols’ weight and height without any inconvenience during the main days of the festival. Artists have beautifully created an outer structure of the Durga idol using clay. The step also involves using bamboo and straw. To focus on perfectly shaping the idol and its strength and keep it towering tall for days, a stage of fibre casting will play a huge role. The asura structure will be created similarly.
How To Reach The Pandal?
I am definitely going to Ranaghat Kamalpur Avijan Sangha to watch the idol during Durga Puja. If you too wish to visit here, hop on a local train and reach Ranaghat. Walk out of the down platform and grab an auto to reach the venue.
If you have plans to come to West Bengal for the first time and stay in Kolkata during Durga Puja, you can easily take a local train from Sealdah, Bidhannagar, or Dum Dum railway stations. There are multiple options such as Ranaghat local, Gede local, Shantipur local, and Krishnanagar local among others. It typically takes about 1 hour 45 minutes from Sealdah to Ranaght by train.
Also, you can book cars or travel on buses to cover this distance.
Are you adding this pandal to your Durga puja pandal hopping list?
