If you’re like the rest of us – daydreaming at your desk and plotting your next escape – here’s a surprise! Eid Al Adha 2025 in Dubai could gift you a glorious four-day weekend this June. No, this isn’t wishful thinking. Astronomers have been busy stargazing and now hint at some very happy news.
Eid Al Adha 2025 Long Weekend Incoming!
Unlike the dependable solar calendar that stubbornly sticks to its 365-day routine, the Islamic Hijri calendar dances to the moon’s rhythm. Each month, either struts off after 29 days or hangs around for 30, depending on when the shy crescent decides to show up. So, naturally, public holidays like Eid Al Adha shift around like that one mate who can never stick to brunch plans.
Here’s the scoop: clever astronomers at Abu Dhabi’s Al-Khatim Observatory spotted the crescent moon bright and early at 9:30 am on Monday, April 28. This means Shawwal will wrap up at a neat 30 days, and Dhu Al-Qi’dah will strut onto the scene starting Tuesday, April 29.
Mark Your Calendars
Thanks to this timely moon spotting, we can start dreaming realistically. According to these starry-eyed calculations, Eid Al Adha should kick off on Thursday, June 5. And guess what that spells? A four-day weekend!
Here’s how it could look:
- Thursday, June 5: Eid Al Adha celebrations begin.
- Friday, June 6: More celebrations (or sleep-ins).
- Saturday, June 7: Regular weekend vibes.
- Sunday, June 8: Possible extended day off if the stars (and government) are kind.
In short, the moon is setting us up for a cheeky mini-holiday right when we’ll desperately need one. However, in true lunar fashion, nothing gets stamped official until closer to the date. The moon, after all, loves drama.
So, why all the faff with the dates? Here’s the science bit made simple: on Sunday, April 27, the moon dips under the UAE horizon. But by Monday, April 28’s sunset, the moon’s old enough (18 hours and 48 minutes, to be precise) to be seen properly. It then hangs about for 54 minutes after sunset, waving hello to astronomers and kicking off the new month.
