Eid-E-Milad is widely celebrated as the birthday of the prophet on the 12th Rabi’ al-Awwal. Rabi’ al-Awwal is the third month according to the Islamic calendar. According to the Gregorian calendar, it falls between September 27 and 28 this year.

Many even mislabel the day as the prophet’s death day. However, that is not quite correct. The popular belief is that the prophet is still living and is just veiled from the current world. Instead of viewing it as ‘death,’ many prefer to view it as the day of His union with Allah.

This particular festival holds a huge significance for many Muslims around the world. Many Shia and Sunni Muslims observe the day by donning new festive clothes, praying, and making special food items at home. In many parts of the country, people take to the streets in special processions or Juloos showcasing models of the Islamic holy places like Makkah and Madina.
