The Hindi language will soon be taught in American schools, if events proceed as a report from the United States of America (USA) suggests. According to a report by India.com, US President Joe Biden has received a proposal in this regard from more than 100 public figures connected to the organisations Asia Society and Indian American Impact, both of which are affiliated with the Democratic Party, which is in power.

In accordance with this plan, 1000 schools would begin teaching Hindi with a budget of ₹816 crore. Given the government’s views towards India and the impending presidential election in 2016, it is quite likely that President Biden will approve of this idea.

In America, high school is the only level at which Hindi classes are currently offered. According to Neil Makhija, the president of India Impact, if kids can’t read Hindi at the elementary level, they can’t grasp it at the high level.

Across the globe, Hindi is spoken more frequently than Mandarin, Spanish, and English combined. It ranks behind Mandarin and English as the third most spoken language in the world when combined with comprehensible Urdu.
