Everything You Need To Know About Saudi Arabia’s Elephant Rock In AlUla

Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia has now opened its doors to visitors eager to see its numerous natural and historical beauties, which were hidden behind a regime that made travel almost impossible. The kingdom is now ready to be explored, thanks to a massive tourist push, much-relaxed rules, and a more hospitable attitude. So, here is everything you need to know about Saudi Arabia’s Elephant Rock in AlUla.

AlUla’s Star Of The Show: The Elephant Rock

Saudi Arabia’s rural areas are famed for their desert vistas and numerous cliffs, dunes, and mountains. Not every day do you see a cliff shaped like an elephant.

Elephant Rock, also known as “Jabal Al-Fil” to the locals, is a natural beauty over 50 metres tall and situated about 11 kilometres north of AlUla. Jabal Al-Fil is the natural landmark of the area, comparable to what the Pigeon Rock is to Lebanon or the Arch of Cabo San Lucas is to Mexico. It is impressive, majestic, and situated against a gorgeous environment.

Story Behind The Name of The Elephant Rock

As its name implies, Elephant Rock is known for its elephant-like shape. An elephant’s trunk and face seem to hit the sand on the opposite side of a massive hole in the centre. Even though the creation seems to be man-made, it was formed over a long period of wind and erosion.

Elephant Rock is popular with visitors because its unique colour scheme mixes well with the surrounding desert scenery. Moreover, it is really available to the public, and you may either trek around or have a picnic there. You may photograph Elephant Rock at any time of day or night, so if you’re lucky, you’ll catch it as the sun sets.

So, what are you waiting for? Book your tickets to AlUla and explore The Elephant Rock.
