Firefly Light Show In The Great Smoky Mountains
Synchronous fireflies are one of the firefly species that are found in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in the USA. These fireflies are one of the rarest species and come back to this place for their mating season. Imagine witnessing this beautiful natural phenomenon in a forest under the open sky! Simply surreal!
This unbelievable display of bioluminescence is so famous that one has to participate and win a lottery to witness its beauty. With an intention to save and protect the habitat of fireflies, the U.S. National Park Service (NPS) limits the number of audience members for the light show. Hence, the people who win the lottery are the only ones who get to witness this.

Mating Ritual Of Synchronous Fireflies
This rare type of fireflies returns to Great Smoky Mountains National Park in order to carry on with their mating ritual. Usually, these beautiful creatures light up the sky between mid-May and mid-June.
Their little flashes light up the entire sky, and this lighting up has a reason for it. All the fireflies light up with the intention of finding their mate. Males fly around and flashlights, while females stay stationary and light up in response.
The colours flash in harmony and span from a greenish-yellow to blue or white. The coordinated flashing of the males, according to the National Park Service (NPS), is done to set them apart from the more than a dozen other species of fireflies that also inhabit the area.
The lottery for vehicle passes will be available from April 28, 10 am onward. You can purchase them until May 1. All the winners will be informed about the same on May 11.
