When travelling internationally, one of the major anxieties that a passenger has is regarding their passports. Regardless of how careful you are, you always fear losing or forgetting your passport, thus ruining your trip. But what if we told you that this anxiety might soon be made redundant? In a groundbreaking new initiative, Finland has launched Digital Passports that will omit the need for you to carry a physical passport! Here’s all you need to know about this.
Finland Launches World’s First Digital Passports
In a groundbreaking new update, Finland has become the world’s first country to launch a digital passport. The digital passport, though introduced on an experimental basis, has the potential to revolutionise and transform international travel as we know it.
If the experiment is successful, passengers will no longer have to carry physical passports along with them. They can simply store them on their smartphones. It is also said that the service will make travel hassle-free and will aid in reducing long queues at security checkpoints.
The service launched on the 28th of August and since it is experimental, only limited people can avail of it as of now. Finnish government officials have partnered with the Finnish Police, Finnair, and Finavia, which is an airport operator. Only those Finnish passengers who are travelling between the UK and Finland via Finnair can avail of the digital passport.
