As one of the most populous cities in the world, Mumbai faces numerous challenges in terms of traffic congestion, overcrowded local trains, and inefficient public transportation. The introduction of the Mumbai Metro will be alleviating some of these problems. Now, the city is ready to welcome its first totally underground metro corridor, the Mumbai Metro Line-3, also known as the Aqua Line, in a ground-breaking development.
First Phase Of Aqua Line To Be Completed By December
With the project nearing completion, the city’s transport landscape is ready to undergo a dramatic makeover. The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation’s Managing Director, Ashwini Bhide, recently told in an interview with BQ Prime that the organisation is aiming to complete the first phase of the Line-3 project by December of this year.
The Aqua Line will run for 33.5 kilometres, offering a vital link between Seepz in Andheri and Colaba, the city’s southernmost district. The Aqua Line, with its impressive 27 stations, is expected to significantly improve connectivity, particularly to busy locations such as the airport, the Santacruz Electronics Export Processing Zone, the Bandra-Kurla Complex, and the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation area.
According to news18.com, when the Aqua Line project was first proposed in 2011, the anticipated cost was roughly ₹23,000 crore. However, almost ₹37,000 crore has already been spent. Because the budget is relatively large, it is difficult for the state and central governments to cover all of the costs. Almost 57 per cent of the total cost has been obtained as a soft loan from the Japan International Cooperation Agency. The remainder will be funded by government funds.

These Upcoming Metro Lines Should Assist In Commuting
New lines and extensions have opened up in various parts of Mumbai. With dedicated underground tracks, the metro system promises to provide a smooth and uninterrupted journey, reducing travel time significantly. What might have been an arduous and time-consuming road trip through heavy traffic should be accomplished swiftly and comfortably aboard the metro.
As Mumbai continues to grow, the further expansion and development of the metro system will be essential to meet the ever-increasing transportation needs of its vibrant population.
