Recipe For Fish Egg Fritters
Ingredients:
For the egg fritters
- Fresh fish eggs – 500 gm
- Onion (chopped) – 1
- Besan/ Chickpea flour – 3 tbsp
- Green chillis (chopped) – 3
- Ginger garlic paste – 1 tbsp
- Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
- Red chilli powder – 1 tsp
- Mustard oil – 1 cup
- Coriander Leaves (chopped) – 3 to 5 stems
- Salt – To taste
For the curry
- Potatoes (peeled and cut) – 120 gm
- Onion (sliced) – 1
- Kalonji seeds – ¼ tsp
- Mustard paste – 1 tbsp
- Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
- Red chilli powder – 1 tsp
- Mustard oil – 2 tbsp
- Salt – To taste
- Water
Preparation:
- Firstly, clean the fish egg well and don’t soak it in water for too long.
- Now, take a big bowl, put all the fritter ingredients except oil in it, and mix well. Remember not to mash the fish eggs as they become too watery for a fritter batter.
- In a pan, put the mustard oil on medium heat. Take a spoonful of the fish egg batter and drop it slowly into the pan in small batches.
- Fry till golden brown on both sides. Take it out and put it on a paper towel to drain the excess oil. Macher Dimer Bora is ready! You can make it as it is but we will make a curry.
- For the curry, keep aside the extra oil and temper it with kalonji seeds.
- Now, saute the sliced onions for a minute or so. Add the potatoes and spices, then mix well.
- Next, add a cup of water and the mustard paste. Mix and simmer for about 5 minutes.
- It is now time to add the yummy fish egg fritters to the jhol or curry. Cover the pan and let it cook for seven minutes on low heat.
- Voila, Macher Dimer Bora Jhol is ready to be served with rice. Enjoy!
