At least 50 people, including 15 children, have been confirmed dead in the catastrophic flooding in Texas, US. Dozens of campers, vacationers, and residents are still missing, and as per the latest update by authorities, rescue and search operations are underway.

At Least 50 Killed In Texas Flash Floods

According to The Times of India, severe flooding in Texas has claimed over 50 lives. Kerr County was one of the worst-affected areas with 43 deaths. In Travis County, at least four deaths were reported, two in Burnet County, and one in Tom Green County. The authorities have issued a warning that the casualty count is likely to rise as there are forecasts for more rain and the risk of further flash floods in the coming days.

Over 850 people had been rescued after a sudden storm caused up to 15 inches of rain in an area around the Guadalupe River. Rescuers shared that some of the people were found clinging to trees for support as the incessant rain and storm wreaked havoc in the region.

Dozens Still Missing

Many people are missing after the catastrophic flooding in Texas. Media reports show that among the missing were 27 girls from the Camp Mystic summer camp. The camp is a Christian girls’ summer retreat in the US state. The camp is situated along the banks of the Guadalupe River in Kerr County, one of several areas caught off guard late Thursday night as heavy rainfall caused the river’s water levels to rise rapidly.

Reportedly, within one and a half hours, the river water surged by over 26 feet. It ended by submerging cabins, vehicles, and surrounding roads. There were around 750 girls, aged 7 to 17, attending the camp when the flash floods occurred. While many were evacuated in a timely manner, at least 27 are still missing.
