The Delhi Transport Infrastructure Development Corporation (DTIDC) is all set to develop a multi-cuisine food court at the ISBT (interstate bus terminal) in Kashmere Gate. The plan aims to improve commuter amenities at one of the busiest transit hubs. Read on to know more.
Delhi’s ISBT To Develop Food Court
According to a Hindustan Times report, an expression of interest issued by the corporation states that all empty commercial space within the ISBT complex will be licensed for the development and operation of a food court with dining facilities and counters. The plan comes in response to the absence of seating spaces for passengers to eat while waiting for buses across all ISBTs in Delhi. Officials stated that the initiative is part of DTIDC’s plans to enhance passengers’ convenience while also generating non-fare revenue through better use of available infrastructure.
A DTIDC official said that the objective is to provide value-added services to commuters by creating dedicated food spaces within the terminal, while also ensuring sustainable revenue generation.
ISBT Kashmere Gate witnesses heavy daily congestion of commuters, visitors and staff. Because of this, it has been identified as a suitable location for a food court due to its connectivity and passenger volume, the official said. The food court is expected to deliver diverse food preferences with options ranging from Indian to international cuisine, along with beverage and quick-service outlets.
More About The Upcoming ISBT Court
The first floor of the terminal has been selected for the food court project. These areas are intended to support a full-scale food court with multiple outlets and seating facilities for at least 50 people, bridging an important gap in passenger facilities at the bus stop. As per the news portal, the official also stated that the feedback received through this process will help finalise the terms and conditions for the tender and ensure that the facility meets the passengers smoothly.
DTIDC has invited responses from entities to assess market interest and get feedback on the proposed commercial structure before moving to an official bidding process. The current EOI stage is aimed at refining project parameters and is non-binding, including operational and financial frameworks.
