Devni Devi is a 65-year-old lady who has been successfully running her cloud kitchen for two decades. She started with a simple ₹20 plate of food, and today, Amma’s Kitchen generates an annual turnover of ₹2.5 crore.

In an interview with ETV Bharat, Devni Devi spoke about her inspiring journey and revealed her story. Born into a landlord family in Hathidah, she grew up surrounded by house helpers and servants. But post her marriage, she was the eldest daughter-in-law in a family of 25 members. What started as a duty ended up being her immense satisfaction, as cooking for the family gave her joy. She never imagined stepping outside the home to work, but life had other plans.
The Inspiring Story Of ‘Amma’s Kitchen’
When she relocated to Patna in 2002 for her children’s education, she found herself with ample free time, prompting her to utilise it by initiating home-style meals for students who were far from their families.
This small vision became a reality, and she launched her lunch service. Within a few days, her simplicity and warmth earned her the name ‘Amma’. However, her journey was not without challenges. People began to raise questions, and her husband even stopped speaking to her for six months. But as they say, patience is the key; she remained calm and focused in her work, which gave her success.
In 2022, post-COVID-19, her son launched the digital version of what they call today ‘Amma’s Kitchen‘. Within months, it had become everyone’s favourite food joint across Patna. Not only this, but she also opened two dine-in outlets offering meals priced between ₹100 and ₹300. Today, the brand records an annual turnover of ₹2.5 crore.
