German Tourist Demands ₹92 Lakh Compensation After Eating Spicy Salsa That Caused Him “Distress”

Recently, a German tourist made news all over the internet for demanding over ₹92 lakh after allegedly experiencing severe distress and post-traumatic symptoms due to the spiciness of a salsa. Yes, you heard that right! Want to know what led him to file a lawsuit not against one but against three different entities? Read on to find out.

German Man Claims Spicy Salsa Caused “Shock”

As per a report by PEOPLE magazine, back in 2024, a German man, Faycal Manz, who is an engineer and a part-time law student, filed lawsuits against three different entities. However, the court dismissed all of his cases. He filed his first lawsuit against a taqueria in Times Square, alleging that they failed to adequately warn him about the salsa’s spiciness. The tourist informed the court that after taking one bite of the self-serve green salsa, he experienced an instant physical reaction.

As per a report by The Indian Express, he said in federal court filings in the Southern District of New York that the symptoms began right away. Faycal asserted that the green salsa triggered a rapid heartbeat and a strong burning sensation on his tongue. He also informed us that he suffered from mouth sores, gastrointestinal issues and emotional distress. As per the report, he then asked for $100,000 (₹ 9,236,380) in damages.

Why Did The Court Dismiss The Case?

In his filing, he stated that as someone from Germany who does not usually consume spicy food, the experience was shocking both physically and mentally. However, the court dismissed the case last month. Judge Dale E. Ho said that spice is very common in salsa. He also pointed out that a simple online search or customer reviews would have indicated the spiciness of the salsa. The restaurant’s legal team also argued that the tourist was responsible for his choices, and the spice level was labelled as medium.

Not only this, but the tourist also filed two other complaints. The second lawsuit was filed against Walmart, where he claimed that the store denied him Wi-Fi access due to his German number. In his most recent lawsuit, he sued the NYPD for refusing to accept a document about an attack on a homeless person.
