Swiggy Food Orders To Get Costlier! After Zomato, Swiggy Increases Platform Fee By 17% Amid Fuel Crisis

If you primarily use Zomato or Swiggy to order food online, you may notice higher-than-usual costs. Just days after food delivery platform Zomato increased its platform charges, Swiggy followed soon after and has increased the fee customers pay on every order. Read on for more information about the new platform fee.

Swiggy Increases Its Platform Fee

As per a report by India Today, Swiggy has raised its platform fee to ₹17.58 per order, including GST, from ₹14.99 earlier. This marks a 17% increase from the previous fee. The company has stated that the revised fee will help the platform’s operation and maintenance, a message that is visible on the app during checkout.

The news comes soon after Zomato increased its platform fee last week. Zomato has raised charges to ₹14.90 from ₹12.50 earlier. Zomato and Swiggy now both appear to be charging similar amounts with GST included, continuing a long-standing competition where both apps mirror each other’s pricing strategies.

Zomato Hikes Its Platform Fee

Last week, Zomato increased its platform delivery fee due to the rising oil prices that are putting pressure on delivery and logistics costs. The app has increased the fee from ₹12.50 per order to ₹14.90, marking a 19.2% hike. This hike adds to the overall costs for customers ordering through the app. Since Swiggy has also increased the fee, now both competitors are charging almost the same amounts.

What’s The Reason Behind The Hike?

As per a report by the Free Press Journal, one of the main reasons behind the fee hike is the rising costs in the food delivery business. Expenses, such as fuel, LPG, and crude oil, have gone up in the past few months due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

These increased costs are affecting both restaurants and delivery partners, making operations pricier for platforms like Swiggy and Zomato. To maintain profits and pricing, the platforms are increasing fees to service them smoothly.
