A new food adulteration case from Uttar Pradesh is now making headlines. Authorities have uncovered an illegal factory producing tomato sauce using harmful chemicals instead of real ingredients. A raid was conducted, and the entire stock is now being destroyed. Read on to know what this illegal factory was using to make the tomato sauce.
Tomato Sauce Made With Harmful Chemicals In Uttar Pradesh
In Hapur, Uttar Pradesh, an illegal factory was operating and producing tomato sauce with harmful chemicals. Instead of using real ingredients, the sauce was being made using acids, rotten materials, and banned synthetic colours, making it unfit for human consumption. According to ABP Live, the Food Safety Department conducted a raid in the Pannapuri area following multiple complaints about suspicious activities.
Officials said the sauce was highly unsafe and posed serious health risks. Not just that, the producers making this harmful tomato sauce were reportedly supplying it to several small eateries and street vendors in the region. Large quantities of adulterated sauce were seized and are now being destroyed as per safety regulations.

Public Urged To Avoid Consuming Roadside Food Items
According to ABP Live, officials have also initiated strict legal action against those involved in this illegal operation. Efforts are underway to identify those linked to the distribution network that may have been selling the harmful sauce in local markets.
Apart from this, the public is also being urged to avoid consuming open or roadside food items, especially sauces and chutneys. Sometimes, these sauces are sourced from unreliable factories and may contain artificial colours or low-quality ingredients, which can pose serious health risks.
Here are some simple ways to identify artificial tomato sauce:
- Look at the colour: If the sauce is very bright red or looks unnatural, it may contain synthetic colour.
- Check the smell: Artificial tomato sauce often has a strong smell, which sometimes smells odd.
- Taste test: Artificial sauce can taste too tangy, bitter, and sometimes very sweet.
- Notice the texture: Fake tomato sauce can be too watery or too thick, which is a sign of low-quality ingredients.
- Check the label: Always check the label before buying tomato sauce from markets. Avoid products with too many artificial colours and preservatives.
