The coronavirus lockdown violators in India don’t seem to come to an end, but the police all over the country have come up with innovative punishments to tackle these violators. From sit-ups, frog jumps, threatening violators of being made to listen to Masakali 2.0 on loop, there doesn’t seem to be any dearth of creative punishments during this lockdown period. Now the latest bizarre yet hopefully effective punishment on this list came when Uttarakhand Police made a group of foreigners write ‘sorry’ 500 times for violating the lockdown in Rishikesh.
What’s In It?
The police in Uttarakhand caught ten foreigners from different cities taking a leisure stroll in the Tapovan area of Rishikesh amid the 21-day nationwide lockdown on Saturday. The police gave them a strict punishment where they had to write ‘sorry’ 500 times for violating this lockdown in Rishikesh. Sub-Inspector Vinod Kumar Sharma stated to news agency PTI, that each of the ten foreigners were made to write an apology 500 times as a punishment. Each one of them had to write “I did not follow the rules of lockdown so I am so sorry,” 500 times.

The Tapovan area in Uttarakhand has around 500 foreigners, and these days they are often witnessed violating the lockdown rules. The operation to penalise them was conducted by the police to send out a strong message to people who tend to take this lockdown lightly. Vinod Kumar Sharma stated that tourists who flocked around hailed from the USA, Australia, Mexico and Israel. Over the years, Rishikesh has evolved into a popular destination for tourists. The police department officials also added that they have told hotels in the town to permit foreign nationals to go out only if they are accompanied by local helpers to avoid ‘unpleasant situations’ for them. Kumar mentioned that hotels not abiding by the lockdown guidelines will be faced with legal action if they failed to mend their ways.
