Mexican Plane mosquitoes

What’s every flyer’s worst nightmare? Perhaps encountering snakes on the plane ( courtesy the thriller-comedy film); a crying baby disturbing one’s sleep; or how about a loudly snoring passenger on the next seat? Well, in a Mexican plane, flyers encountered the unexpected— an infestation by a swarm of mosquitoes. Read on to know what happened next.

Mosquitoes Infest Mexican Plane & Cause Havoc

A Volaris flight flying from Guadalajara to Mexico City was infested by a swarm of mosquitoes, causing a 2-hour delay on October 6. In a video shot by a passenger, Elizabeth Esmeralda Minjarez Corona, you can see the cabin crew frantically spraying insect repellant in the air. They are waving their arms and scurrying across the aisle. The passengers are also gasping, waving their hands in their seats and trying to scoot away from the tiny-terrorists.

Storyful reported that the Mexican flight was supposed to depart at 4:30 pm but the mosquitoes caused a delay of over 2 hours. And the plane finally took off at 7 pm. The cabin crew wanted to tackle the mosquito problem on land and avoid the unpleasant situation at 30,000 feet above sea level.

However, it still remains unclear how a swarm of mosquitoes managed to enter the aircraft in the first place. However, local media reported that this wasn’t the first such incident. Back in 2019, another Volaris flight also faced a similar mosquitoes infiltration.

And this is because the Guadalajara airport is located near areas prone to flooding and has abundant vegetation. Moreover, due to the present weather conditions, many of the water bodies are contaminated.

Earlier, A Jet Airways Flight From Lucknow Faced This

Back in India, a Jet Airways flight faced a similar situation when a swarm of mosquitoes invaded an aircraft at Lucknow airport in 2018. A video taken by a passenger went viral on the Internet where you can see passengers swatting mosquitoes in the cabin crew. Jet Airways even issued an apology following this unpleasant incident.

Meanwhile, have you ever seen mosquitoes in your flight before? And if you did, do you think it’s time we start carrying Odomos and mosquito repellant spray in our handbags?
