41 Countries Import Indian Mangoes But This One Country Surpasses The Rest

India continues to make its mark globally with its mango exports, sending the king of fruits to over 40 countries in 2024. While traditionally the United States and the United Kingdom have remained major buyers, the latest figures reveal a surprising shift. As reported by multiple agencies, a nation in the Gulf region has emerged as the leading importer, overtaking Western countries in volume and value.

Mango Exports Reach ₹420 Crore Across 41 Nations

As per the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), India exported over 27,000 metric tonnes of mangoes during the financial year 2023–24. These exports were valued at ₹420 crore and spanned across forty-one countries. Indian mangoes are in high demand globally due to their rich flavour, variety, and superior quality.

The leading importers include nations from the Gulf region, Europe, North America, and the Asia-Pacific region. This global outreach is a direct result of India’s strategic export policies and consistent agricultural advancements.

Interestingly, the top spot for mango imports does not belong to the United States or the United Arab Emirates this year. Instead, Saudi Arabia, a Muslim-majority country, has taken the lead, reflecting a growing preference for Indian mangoes in the Gulf region.

This trend is influenced by cultural significance, seasonal demand during Ramadan, and long-standing trade ties with India. Saudi Arabia imported mangoes worth over ₹137 crore, clearly surpassing both the US and UAE, which reported imports valued at ₹46 crore and ₹77 crore, respectively.

Government Initiatives Boost Mango Trade

The Indian government’s continued focus on agricultural exports has played a vital role in this growth. APEDA has promoted mango exports through quality assurance programmes, international trade fairs, and branding campaigns. Special mango consignments were also sent to countries like South Korea, Japan, and Australia to strengthen diplomatic and trade relations.

Through improved packaging, cold chain infrastructure, and farmer training programmes, India has managed to elevate its global mango reputation. These initiatives ensure the fruit remains fresh during transit and meets global safety standards.
