The Foxglove Flower is a gorgeous bell-shaped flower with the prettiest of purple hues. The flower is ideally a native of European temperatures but to witness this beauty you don’t need to fly abroad.

You can find the bell-shaped flower situated in the valleys of Jammu and Kashmir, specifically the Doda district. Also known as Digitalis Purpurea, the Foxglove Flower begins to bloom in the months of early May- June.

The plant is known as a low-maintenance plant owing to how little it takes to keep it sustained. Moist soil and partial shade are all it needs to grow and thrive.

During the peak summertime of the year, countless tourists seek refuge from the scorching heat in their hometowns by flocking to the captivating Bhaderwah valley. It is also referred to as ‘mini-Kashmir’ due to its striking resemblance to the renowned Kashmir valley.

Often hailed as ‘paradise on earth,’ this enchanting destination offers a breathtaking display of exquisite flowers, attracting visitors from far and wide.

Highest Volume Of Tourists Witnessed By Jammu and Kashmir

But due to the last two years of COVID-19, tourism in the Bhderwah region of Jammu and Kashmir saw a stark drop. Even the beauty of the Foxglove flower, which was often used as a trump card to attract tourists, had failed.

But this year, tribal nomads, who usually can be found in high-altitude meadows along with their cattle during summers, are also rejoicing. This is because they get to earn money due to the flow of incoming tourists that come to see the beautiful flowers.

In collaboration with the tourism department, the district administration has already taken various steps to highlight the natural beauty of this region to the outside world. The observance of International Yoga Day which was on June 21, 2023 was held at Jaie Ghati.

The purpose was to bring the Foxglove flower to the limelight. The yoga session witnessed close to 5,000 people from different regions of the country. Apart from them, a number of foreign visitors also turned up for the yoga session.

The session was held 7,850 feet high in Jaie Ghati, 70 kilometres from the Doda district headquarters.
