The government of Uttar Pradesh has made a very special announcement that will be, no doubt, very welcome. It has recently been announced that bus travel for women over the age of 60 will be absolutely free! This scheme will soon be launched in the state and will definitely improve the travel experiences of elderly women in UP. Here are all of the important details that you would need to know about this great news.

Women Over 60 Will Soon Travel For Free In UPSRTC Bus

According to an article which was recently published by The Times Of India or TOI, women over the age of 60 years will soon get to travel for free in state buses. The Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation or UPSRTC will let elderly women travel for free in the state buses.

This particular scheme will come into effect once the GO or the government order is issued. The article also cited a survey conducted by the UPSRTC. It found out that between March 2022 and March 2023, more than 3.7 lakh women passengers travelled in UPSRTC buses daily.

This means that women made up more than thirty per cent of the total passengers travelling in UP buses every day. Out of these, at least 88,000 women were above the age of 60. This means that these elderly women made up more than seven per cent of the total passengers.

Government To Issue Cards To Keep Track Of Women

To ensure that there is transparency in the scheme, the government will issue cards to eligible women. These cards will carry all of their information. This will allow them to avail of the free bus travel scheme.

The cards will also help the corporation in keeping track of the number of women who are availing of this service.
