Several factors contribute to the boom in outbound travel by Indians. Economic growth and a burgeoning middle class play pivotal roles in this phenomenon. As per reports by Trevolution Group, from January to September, outbound travel from India increased by 179%, creating a large number of job opportunities in the rapidly expanding travel and tourism industry. This incredible expansion indicates a bright future for the region’s employment market as well as the travel sector.

The remarkable demand for transpacific travel—which has increased by 22% to India—beyonds pre-pandemic levels. This trend is further supported by the growing Indian diaspora in the United States. The data highlights India as a top destination for foreign airline travelers in both the growing visiting-friends-and-relatives (VFR) market and traditional leisure travel.

The surge in outbound travel by Indians is undeniably one of the most conspicuous trends in the travel and tourism sector. Statistics reveal a steady increase in the number of Indian tourists exploring international destinations.

The tourism industry in India has witnessed significant growth. The boom in outbound travel has far-reaching economic implications. This is both for the outbound tourism industry and the economies of destination countries. The tourist industry’s hiring peaked in October 2023, up 61% from December 2022, according to Indeed’s data. The diversity of jobs spans from entry-level positions in the service industry, such as waitstaff and housekeeping, to highly specialised roles requiring expertise in areas such as travel management, destination marketing and more.

The increase highlights the job market’s flexibility and durability in the face of shifting global trends, as well as a significant post-pandemic recovery and a bright future for the sector. Earlier, according to Economic Impact Research conducted by the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), India is expected to rise to the third position in terms of global market influence within the travel and tourism sector.
