The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation is planning to install a smart lighting system on three flyovers on the Sion-Panvel Highway. The three flyovers are located in Belapur, Nerul and Vashi and utilise the Digital Multiplex or DMX technology. The initiative is being undertaken to beautify the city and gain higher points for Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. In addition to smart, tech-powered lighting, trees will also be planted along the Palm Beach road, as per an article recently published by Hindustan Times.

2. Taxi, Autorickshaw And Cab Unions Announce Strike At T2 Terminal

According to an article recently published livemint, multiple taxi, autorickshaw and cab unions have announced a protest today at the T2 of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport or the CSMIA because of parking spaces and fares. They are demanding a hike in fares for prepaid taxis and want there to be better facilities for parking for private autorickshaws, cabs, and taxis. Despite the ongoing protest, the unions have said that services of the airport will remain unaffected.

3. Men Play Garba On A Local Train In A Viral Video

The entire country has been swept up in a flurry of Garba as it celebrates Navratri. Recently, an adorable video went viral on the Internet. The video showed a group of men enthusiastically playing Garba on a local train! Clearly, the Navratri fever has gripped the country and everyone is willingly affected by its infectious charm!

4. Not Chemical But Dust Pollution: Officials On Mumbai Smog

For the past few days, the news that Mumbai’s air quality has declined has been spreading. Mumbaikars have witnessed a thick smog settle over their beloved city and data backs up the fact that the air quality has worsened in the city. Deepak Kesarkar, who is the guardian minister of Mumbai, said that the poor air quality was at least in part owing to the ongoing infrastructure projects happening in Mumbai. He said that the pollution which has gripped the city in the past couple of days is not chemical in nature but due to dust from all the construction.

5. Officials Will Seek To Rebuild Malabar Hill Reservoir Without Damaging The Hanging Gardens

A couple of weeks ago, Mumbaikars received a blow when it was announced that their beloved and iconic Hanging Gardens located in Malabar Hills may be demolished soon in order to rebuild a colonial-era reservoir. Understandably, many locals were against it. Kesarkar recently stated that alternate avenues of building the reservoir were being sought, ones that did not warrant the destruction of the heritage site.
