From India’s First Water Metro To Underground Metro, Here Are India’s Biggest Infrastructure Updates

India is progressing at a faster pace! This can be seen in the multiple inaugurations of trains and bridges. In addition to this, the country has received a lot of firsts (like water metro, etc.). Here’s a list of every infrastructural development of India in the first quarter. 

India’s Infrastructure Updates 

1. India’s First

  • In Kochi, Kerala, the first water metro in India was opened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It will use hybrid electric battery-powered boats to connect the city’s Malabar coast to ten islands.
  • Bypassing the tunnel beneath the Hooghly River, the Kolkata Metro achieved a first for the nation.
  • Along the Line of Actual Control, or LAC, the central government placed a signboard proclaiming Mana hamlet in Uttarakhand to be “India’s first village.”
  • The first elevated plane taxiway in India may start operating at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in September.
  • India’s first Apple store was opened on April 18th in Mumbai’s BKC.
  • On Friday, a tea shop was established at the Guwahati Railway Station and operated by a transperson to support the transgender community.
  • The Vande Bharat Express train in Rajasthan is the first semi-high-speed passenger train to run on high-rise overhead electric cables in the entire world.
  • Mumbai is home to India’s first double-decker e-bus and operates between CSMT and Nariman Point.

2. Vande Bharat Trains

  • West Bengal’s first Vande Bharat Express operates between Howrah and New Jalpaiguri.
  • Secunderabad – Visakhapatnam Vande Bharat Express is the 12th semi-high speed train flagged off by PM Modi.
  • On April 12th, Rajasthan’s first Vande Bharat Express was inaugurated.
  • Kerala finally received its first Vande Bharat train on April 25th.
  • PM Modi flagged off two Vande Bharat express trains from Mumbai — the first one to Shirdi and another to Solapur.
  • On April 8th, PM Modi inaugurated Chennai-Coimbatore Vande Bharat Express.
  • The 11th Vande Bharat Express train between New Delhi and Bhopal via Agra Cantt began service on April 1.

3. Bharat Gaurav Trains

  • Ambedkar Yatra takes you on a journey to the prominent sites related to Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar. 
  • Punya Kshetra Yatra operates from Secunderabad and takes you on a spiritual journey. 
  • Guru Kirpa Yatra
  • Bharat Gaurav Delux AC was inaugurated on March 21st and explores North East India. 
  • Another Bharat Gaurav Deluxe AC train was flagged off and takes you on a tour of the ‘Shri Ram-Janaki Yatra: Ayodhya to Janakpur’. 
  • The Bharat Gaurav Deluxe AC tourist train was officially flagged off for “Garvi Gujarat” by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.

4. New Bridges & Highways

  • On February 12, Prime Minister Narendra Modi officially opened the Sohna-Bonli section of the new Delhi-Mumbai Motorway. It shortened the trip from Delhi to Jaipur to almost four hours.
  • Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister, formally opened the Ashram Flyover Extension on February 28.
  • Anji Khad Bridge is located in Jammu and Kashmir and is India’s first cable-stayed bridge. However, it will be operational by May 2023.

5. Metro Trains

  • On January 19, the new Mumbai Metro Lines 2A and 7 were inaugurated by the prime minister at the Gundavali metro station.
  • The water metro train was launched in Kochi.
  • Bengaluru’s Whitefield metro train was launched by PM Modi 0n March 25th.

6. Ongoing Projects

  • Kacchi Dargah–Bidupur Bridge in Bihar spans over the River Ganga but is still under construction.
  • Mumbai-Ahmedabad HSR corridor is a high-speed rail line which is under construction.
  • Secunderabad Railway Station will undergo a makeover.
  • The USBRL project is still under construction, however, it is anticipated to be completed by the end of this year.
