‘Hiriye’ singer Shael Oswal caught up with Curly Tales’s Editor-in-Chief Kamiya Jani for a wonderful meal and even more wonderful conversation at Saar Cafe in Bandra West, Mumbai. The Ludhiana-based singer went into a deep dive about his musical journey, and his recent relocation to the UAE and even revealed his favourite food spots in Mumbai.

Shael Oswal Recalls Enjoying Street Food In Mumbai

While talking to Kamiya, Shael Oswal reminiscences gorging on street food in Mumbai when he shifted with his family during his childhood. As his father had a factory in the ‘City of Dreams’, Shael remembers spending a lot of time in Mumbai. He remembered drinking refreshing beverages at Mother Dairy in Worli and relishing Pav Bhaji.

What comes as a shocker is that the singer is not a fan of Vada Pav. He says, “Vada Pav… I have never liked too much. I had once but I was feeling very heavy for three days.” His candid response left Kamiya laughing. Having stayed in Ludhiana, Mumbai and Delhi, Shael revealed which of the three cities inspires him the most when it comes to creating fresh music.

His Music Career Started In Delhi

“Delhi was the inspiration factor for me,” replied the eminent singer. He quipped that his musical career started in Delhi as he met “some amazing people”. As Mumbai is the tinsel town and entertainment hub of India, he couldn’t miss out on arriving in the city. Shael revealed that his Maasi (mother’s sister) was a fantabulous singer. And she pursued her passion until she was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. With his family, especially his father’s support he pursued a successful career in music.

To date, his 2006 hit Hiriye continues to resonate with people of every generation. During the course of the conversation, Shael spoke about his observation of the differences between Singapore and Dubai, especially the residents who stayed there.
