The Olympics food menu is a reflection of the host country’s culinary heritage and a tribute to the global community that the games represent. Now, the top chefs in charge of feeding the sporting masses at the 2024 Olympic Games are pushing a more vegetarian approach.
One of the three award-winning chefs in charge of providing French cuisine for the 15,000 athletes living in the Olympic Village is Michelin-starred chef Akrame Benallal. However, he may be known for his dishes prepared with a lot of steaks, burgers, and other meat dishes in his restaurants. But, his signature meal for the Olympics will be muesli with quinoa.
A former professional basketball player named Alexandre Mazzia is another who is providing recipes using chickpeas, peas and smoked beets, as well as smoked salmon with chard. They are collaborating with a large food organisation, Sodexo Live! It has made it a top priority to use less animal protein and minimise its carbon footprint.
However, it is of the view that veggies cannot completely satisfy the needs of the best athletes in the world. Moreover, the Olympics food menu has evolved over the years to accommodate different dietary preferences and requirements. So that, every athlete and visitor can enjoy the culinary delights of the games.
