From Sports Tourism To Destination Weddings, PM Modi’s Key Points On Boosting Tourism In India

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a post-budget webinar on Friday. According to him, long term vision and out-of-the-box ideas will help boost India’s tourism to new heights. In this 12-part series organised by the government titled “Developing Tourism in Mission Mode,” he invited suggestions to implement the Budget 2023 announcements. Here are some key points by PM Modi to boost tourism. 

PM Modi On Tourism In India

PM Modi explained how Budget 2023 looks at creating employment and investment opportunities in the tourism sector. 

He said that India should definitely explore its scope in birdwatching. Encouraging various types of tourism related to the wildlife, heritage, northeast, Himalayas, and spirituality is needed in India. 

Talking about the impact of renovating religious sites, he said bringing in more amenities and enabling ease of tourism helps boost tourism. He gave an example of the already renovated religious sites like Kashi Vishwanath Dham, which recorded 7 crore visitors. Kedarnath received 15 lakh visitors, while the Statue of Unity received 27 lakh visitors.

The Center is offering assistance to neighbourhood homestays, hotels, and businesses in tourism areas through its “Vibrant Village Yojana” for villages close to borders and other programs. Remote villages have been propelled onto the tourism map because of infrastructure improvements in these regions.

About 50 destinations will be picked and developed in mission mode in order to make sure that they appear on the tourist’s list while visiting India. Each destination will come up with a revenue model. Entrepreneurship training and upskilling based on sector will help in achieving the aim of ‘Dekho Apna Desh.’

Tourist Apps, Tour Guides And More

According to PM Modi, “tourism” has a socio-cultural context in India and is not just a fancy term. In announcing the need for unique destination wedding packages, he claimed that the industry has enormous tourism potential because even middle-class and upper-middle are selecting destination weddings. 

The tourist apps should be more modernised and accessible in all official languages in India and the United Nations. Tourist spots should have multilingual signboards. All these measures can actually increase digital connectivity. 

The prime minister used Qatar’s experience hosting the FIFA World Cup to argue that comparable infrastructure should be built to promote sports tourism.

In order to draw in foreign visitors, colleges should take the initiative to improve the expertise of professional tour guides through certificate programmes and competitions.
