Karnataka Weddings To Soon Have Calorie Counts
Right now, it has become a habit for people to count calories before consuming anything. But during large gatherings like weddings, we aren’t always able to do so. As per News18, however, the Karnataka Food Safety and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued an advisory asking caterers to display the calorie content of food served at weddings and social events with more than 50 people.
As per FDA Commissioner K Srinivas, weddings often include several calorie-heavy dishes. These may include mutton curry, fish fry, biryani, sambar, rice and one or two sweets. Due to this, a person can consume over 5,000 calories in a single meal. However, with calorie count in, a person will be able to understand how much they are eating.

Why Has Karnataka Taken This Decision?
The proposed calorie count advisory is applicable to caterers serving at large public gatherings. This means not every gathering is included. The FDA will share more details on how caterers should display the calorie information after issuing the advisory.
News18 reported that with this advisory, authorities want to make people aware of the total calories they are consuming in one sitting and help them make the right choices. This action has been taken as overeating can lead to an increase in sugar and sodium intake. It can also contribute to health issues such as high blood pressure and diabetes.
