With its crystal-clear waters, white-sand beaches, and lush tropical nature reserves, Seychelles continues to earn a spot on every traveller’s bucket list. And if it’s on yours too, here’s some good news. Travelling to Seychelles could soon become much more convenient, as India and Seychelles have signed an MoU to introduce UPI-based digital payments. Here’s everything you need to know.

UPI MoU Between India & Seychelles

According to Moneycontrol, during his visit to Seychelles, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to advance UPI-based digital payments in the island nation.

The two nations also unveiled 19 pacts during his visit to deepen strategic ties between the two countries. These include pushes for defence and maritime security, digital payments, space, healthcare, agriculture and education.

While more details are awaited, the PM announced the signing of an MoU for UPI. He said. “I am happy that an MoU has been signed between India and Seychelles for UPI.”

PM Modi Meets 194-Year-Old Jonathan

During his visit, PM Modi also visited the world’s oldest living land animal, the 194-year-old Jonathan at the Seychelles National Botanical Gardens. The PM took to his Instagram to share a series of pictures with the “tortoises of Seychelles”, calling him the “ones who have seen it all!”

Jonathan was in the news recently after Guinness World Records recognised him as the world’s oldest living land animal. Estimated to have been born in 1832, the tortoise has witnessed several historic events, survived generations, and experienced dramatic changes in the world.
