Commuters in Dubai will now be able to use QR codes directly from their smartphones when they travel on the Dubai Metro, tram, and public buses. As revealed by the Dubai Roads and Transport Authority, it has introduced a digital ticketing service, which allows passengers to use QR codes instead of paper tickets. Here’s all about this development coming from Dubai, which makes life easier for commuters in a sustainable way.

Dubai RTA Launches Digital Ticketing Services On Dubai Metro, Tram & Public Buses

With the launch of this new service, Dubai RTA now allows residents and visitors to purchase digital nol tickets. They can do so through the nol pay or S’hail applications. Then scan them at designated readers that are across the public transport network of Dubai.

Dubai Metro passengers can scan the QR codes at the blue entry gates, and bus passengers can validate their tickets when they hold their phones over the red nol readers that are near the entrance. The service is also available to people who travel by Dubai tram, as revealed in a report by Gulf News.

How To Obtain The QR Code?

If a passenger wants to obtain a ticket, all they need to do is download the application. After this, they can select a single ticket or a one-day pass and then choose a travel zone destination. Once all of this is done, all they will have to do is complete the payment.

The QR code is then issued instantly and accessed directly through the application. As mentioned in the official service guidance of the Dubai RTA, the unused digital QR tickets remain valid for up to 90 days. This is from the date of purchase. Once the QR code is activated, the one-day passes by Dubai RTA will remain valid until midnight on the same day, instead of the full 24-hour period.

All The Passengers Need To Do Is Scan Their Digital Tickets

Passengers, as mentioned in the report, will have to scan their digital tickets when they check in and out. Not to mention, they will have to keep them accessible throughout the journey, even when they are transferring between transport services.

So, if you are someone who uses the public network of buses, trams and metros regularly, then you would be pleased to know about the launch of the service.
