The latest guest to appear on Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey’s podcast was Rainn Wilson, aka Dwight Schrute, who played ‘Assistant to the Regional Manager’ of the fictional office, Dunder Mifflin Paper Company in Scranton. The ladies asked Rainn about his fondest food memory on the show. The actor instantly went back to Season 3, episode The Coup.

“My favourite food memory was the breakfast that I had with Jan (character played by Melora Hardin),” reveals Rainn. While filming the scene, Rainn’s character, Dwight Schrute, met Jan, the regional head of the company, to overthrow his boss, Michael Scott (played by Steve Carell). “I had pancakes, eggs, toast and waffles, and I covered the whole thing in maple syrup,” he chuckled.

He Demolished Syrupy Pancakes While Locking Eyes With ‘Jan’

To this, Jenna interjected as she wanted to know if the maple syrup bit was a creative call by the actor or part of the script. To this, Rainn revealed that the scene was, in fact, part of the script. The actor remembered writer, director and actor, Paul Lieberstein, directing him to pour maple syrup over the pancakes for far too long while locking his eyes with his co-actor, Melora. But Rainn remembers that Paul didn’t insist he eat as much as he actually did.

Rainn Wilson was so committed to the scene that he demolished the syrupy pancakes, and to date, he remembers how it tasted. “I’m so glad I did, it was so much fun,” he recalled on the podcast. But he did admit that Jan, aka Melora Hardin, was left mind-blown by the “pounds of pancakes” he ate during the scene.
