Imagine being served a meal on a flight when your co-passenger suddenly takes off their footwear, props their bare feet up against the aircraft wall, and starts stretching and scratching them. That’s exactly what Vir Das witnessed during his recent journey. The comedian later shared the incident on X, asking the internet for its thoughts, and netizens appeared divided.
Lack Of Civic Sense Or Just Making Smart Use Of Leg Room?
Genuine question. You’re eating a meal. Dude next to you does this. Starts scratching one foot with the other. For like ten mins. What are you doing next? This was across from me on the flight. Aisle seat, poor chap tried to look away and concentrate on his meal. You? pic.twitter.com/nhejtrvQtY

Vir Das shared a picture on X showing a passenger placing his bare foot on the aircraft wall during meal service. In the photo, the passenger’s foot can be seen resting near the window. Although the passenger was not seated next to Vir but across from him, the comedian could clearly observe the situation, including the apparent discomfort of the passenger seated on the aisle side.

Vir Das’s Post Sparks Online Debate
Now, Vir Das’s post has sparked a debate online. Amassing over 60,000 views, it has triggered discussions around hygiene, public manners on flights, social awareness, and, interestingly, unconventional uses of legroom. The comments section was flooded with mixed reactions.
“Ask nicely or nothing. They paid to be able to do that,” one of the comments read.
One user shared, “People like this only persist because they count on you to not break the social decorum and speak up. In my experience, as soon as they’re confronted, they quietly back down.”
“Mind my own business instead of trying to post people’s feet on social media,” another comment read.
Sharing a similar experience, one netizen wrote, “I happened to be in Lucknow–Delhi Shatabdi last year; a girl, who happened to be an advocate returning from a wedding, kept showing her dirty socks to us since the seats were facing each other. I complained to the TT, and they were like, confront yourself. Civic sense, you know.”
“Ignore and move on with eating your food. When we travel in a plane with other passengers, we can’t expect everyone to have a civic sense. Either travel privately or just ignore,” someone wisely said.
