Train Carrying 100 Passengers Derails In Germany; 3 Dead, Several Injured

A regional passenger train in Germany’s southwestern state of Baden-Württemberg was involved in a tragic accident on Sunday, July 27. Two of its carriages derailed, killing at least three people and leaving many others injured. The exact cause of the accident is still unknown. 

Train In Germany Derails Near Riedlingen


Around 100 passengers were on board when the accident occurred at around 6:10 pm near the town of Riedlingen in the state of Baden-Württemberg, Germany. As per a report by The Guardian, two train carriages on the regional express train operated by Deutsche Bahn had derailed, killing three people and leaving many others injured. The reason for the derailment remains unknown.

Reportedly, authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident. Traffic has also been suspended over a 40 km (25-mile) stretch of the route. The passenger train was travelling from the German town of Sigmaringen to the city of Ulm when it derailed in a forested area.

German Chancellor Responds To The Tragedy

As per a report by India Today, the force of the derailment was quite strong. Several parts of the train were thrown off the tracks and into the forests. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz also shared a post on his official X account, saying, “The train accident in the Biberach district shocks me. I am in close contact with the Interior Minister and the Transport Minister and have asked them to support the rescue forces with all available means. We mourn the victims. I express my condolences to their relatives.” 

Moreover, helicopter services also arrived at the accident site, and nearby hospitals were alerted for emergencies. Reportedly, authorities are citing heavy rainfall as the reason behind the landslide that caused the train accident. As per a report by The Guardian, Germany’s rail network often faces criticism for poor infrastructure. Passengers regularly face train delays and technical issues.

The exact reason for the accident is still unknown, and further investigations are underway.
